Facility Designer

Maintenance Design Group is looking for Facility Designers in our Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Nashville, and Baltimore offices.

The Facility Designer is an essential, valued member of the Maintenance Design Group (MDG) staff directly responsible for developing a major portion of our project deliverables. This person is a self-motivated, creative, and innovative individual, showing an ability to be a team player in a small but mighty multi-office A/E firm with team members across all four time zones.

The Facility Designer reports to the Region Manager or Facility Design Manager. Some travel to client sites or other MDG offices is required.

Qualifications

Academic / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, mechanical engineering or related
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in industrial design, facility planning, equipment layout, building mechanical or plumbing design, or work flow analysis

Technical

  • Command of Revit and AutoCAD, and knowledge of SketchUp
  • Command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project)

Preferred Skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to hand draw conceptual site and building plans
  • Exceptional level of accuracy and detail

Typical Work

Tasks / Duties

  • Facility programming, report writing, site master planning, developing specifications and construction documents
  • Selection, coordination and layout of various aspects of design (vehicle maintenance equipment, site flow, etc.)
  • Creating / using Building Information Modeling (BIM) to complete different levels of documents
  • Submittal, shop drawing, and RFI review
  • Conduct construction field observations
  • Other design / engineering tasks as assigned

Professional Development

Participates in professional development seminar, course, workshop, or conference to be determined and approved in advance of attendance. Maintains continuing education requirements for any certification or license.

Physical Requirements

  • General: Required to talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Tolerance: Able to sit or stand in front of computer or other equipment for long periods of time. Able to sustain attentive work on tedious or repetitive tasks
  • Vision: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Lift/Carry: Able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Climb/Crawl: Able to climb ladder, crawl under typical work surfaces
  • Movement: Able to travel to and traverse uneven terrain, climb ladder and/or scaffolding, crawl under objects with less than 30 inch clearance

Electrical Designer

Maintenance Design Group is looking for an Electrical Designer in our Denver office.

The Electrical Designer is a dynamic, self-motivated, creative, and innovative individual. This person possesses robust interpersonal skills and professional demeanor appropriate for interacting with clients. Ability to be a team player in a small but mighty multi-office A/E firm with team members across all four time zones is essential. This is a professional position with expanding responsibility and growth potential.

The Electrical Designer reports to the Engineering Manager. Some travel to client sites or other MDG offices may be required.

Qualifications

Academic / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in electrical power systems design, lighting systems design, load calculations, fault current calculations, and mechanical systems coordination

Technical

  • Thorough knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD
  • Command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent ability to produce schedules (panels, conduit and nameplates, etc.), control wiring diagrams, and schematic diagrams

Preferred Skills

  • Robust interpersonal skills and professional demeanor appropriate for interacting with clients, other design professionals and colleagues
  • Experience with designing plumbing systems (waste, vent, storm, cold / hot water and natural gas)
  • Exceptional level of accuracy and detail

Typical Work

  • Creation and drafting of high quality electrical layouts
  • Population of panel board schedules
  • Creation of lighting design that contributes to a safe, functional, and pleasant environment for clients and end users
