Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) Transportation Facility

Boulder, Colorado

Currently, BVSD’s Education Center includes District Offices, Education Center, District Warehouses, Foss, and Maintenance. With considerable growth in the school district, BVSD realized their Education Center site is too small to accommodate all functions as master planned. As a result, BVSD decided to relocate Transportation and Bus Maintenance to a new site within the district. This new site will include Transportation, Bus Maintenance, Bus Parking, staff parking, Fueling, and the Bus Wash Building.

As part of the Design Team, HDR | MDG assisted with the planning efforts for this new facility. Work included assisting with development of site layouts and determining bus circulation, as well as assisting in the development of floor plans for Bus Maintenance, Wash Building, and the Fuel Island. HDR | MDG also developed equipment layout drawings, service equipment layout drawings, as well as signage and graphics plans for the Bus Maintenance Areas, Fuel Island, and Wash Building.

Highlights:

  • Future planning includes a Propane Fuel Island.
  • The design took into consideration wetlands along the perimeter of the site.
  • Transportation area located on the first and second floor with the Bus Maintenance areas.
