RTD Elati LRT Maintenance Facility

Denver, CO

As a part of the development of the Southeast Corridor rail line in the Denver metro area, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) purchased additional vehicles increasing the fleet of light rail vehicles (LRV) from 31 to 100. To accommodate this growth, the LRT Elati Maintenance Facility was designed to provide LRV maintenance and cleaning for this fleet. A multi-disciplined team headed by Maintenance Design Group provided Contract Documents and Construction Services for the Elati Maintenance Facility. During design, MDG facilitated close coordination with the design team responsible yard track, system electrification, controls, communication and utility relocation. The MDG Team was responsible for the building design, civil site work, and maintenance equipment specifications.

This facility includes 16 maintenance bays, a light rail car wash bay, vehicle lifts, sanding system, wheel truing lathe bay, electronic shop, parts storage, and maintenance-of-way shop. It also includes administrative offices, dispatch, driver support areas, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and lunchrooms.

Located on a site that required environmental cleanup from the previous land uses, the Elati facility provides an attractive, positive addition to the surrounding residential neighborhood.
