City of Golden Public Works Facility
The City of Golden Public Works Department had facilities that were outdated, inadequately sized, and could not provide the range of necessary service for the Department. A new, environmentally-friendly 72,000-square-foot facility was constructed in an industrial area, carved out of a hillside to create a flat site to accommodate the buildings. The campus of seven buildings includes a six-bay fleet maintenance shop, a shop to house the Water, Sign, Facilities, and Parks crews, an enclosed heated vehicle storage building for plow trucks and street sweepers, a sand storage building, a covered equipment building, and an automatic truck wash building. The facility includes several sustainable features such as natural day lighting, low flow plumbing fixtures, xeriscape and native landscaping, and water reclamation system for the truck wash facility.
Notable Design Features:
- Water-conserving plumbing fixtures and native landscaping.
- Drive-through repair bays with clearstory lighting.
- Pervious concrete paving system.
