Gunnison County Public Works Facility

Gunnison, CO

Gunnison County’s Public Works facility was located on airport property near the taxiway. FAA regulations required they move to another location. Under a very challenging 12-month design and construction schedule and with a very limited budget, Maintenance Design Group provided an updated program and site master plan for the facility.

Designed to house vehicle maintenance, Road and Bridge Division, Public Works administration, and a recycling drop-off and processing center, the design of the new facility takes into account the extreme climate in Gunnison. The design solution included careful consideration of building materials that would work with the severe cold of the winter months. The site was configured to accommodate future growth and a possible joint-use fueling facility.

Project Highlights
• Two-acre public drop-off area for recycling.
• Flexibility on the site for future expansion requirements.
• Project was CM/GC and built along with the County Jail by one contractor.
