Regional Transportation Commission Sunset Maintenance Facility
Las Vegas, Nevada
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada provides fixed route service and parallel paratransit service throughout the Las Vegas Valley using private contractors to operate and maintain their fleet. A new, modern facility was needed to replace a leased facility which was deteriorating. Maintenance Design Group began the process to select and evaluate new sites for what would become the Sunset Maintenance Facility (SMF), and then went on to help design the new facility.
The SMF was designed to support a range of fixed route, paratransit, and BRT vehicles with separate administration spaces to support an operating contractor for each type of service. The fixed-route bus maintenance area includes 13 running repair bays, four PM/inspection bays with advanced designed lower level work areas, A/C repair and testing bays, a tire bay and shop, two body repair bays, a body shop, and a down-draft paint booth capable of handling all buses in the RTC fleet including double decker and articulated buses.
• Facilities support multiple contract operations on a single site.
• Dedicated operations and maintenance facilities for both fixed route and paratransit operations.
• Facility operations center is first of its kind for RTC and includes shops for facility maintenance, component-related maintenance, on-board electronics (AVL, video, radios, designation signage, and fare boxes), and bulk storage.
• Eight-lane U-turn service and wash facility designed for a four-hour service window.
