Santa Monica Big Blue Bus Campus Expansion
Santa Monica, California
This state-of-the-art maintenance facility was a significant improvement to the outdated, congested facility, that could no longer properly maintain vehicles. Maintenance bays were designed to accommodate electric, diesel, and LNG-fueled standard and articulated buses as well as city fire trucks and airport equipment.
Maintenance layout includes lower-level work areas, air-condition bay, tire shop, welding bays, two chassis wash bays with parallelogram lifts, safety harness system on each bay, bridge cranes, hoists, and three in-ground, three-post and 11 in-ground, two-post computerized lifts. An extensive list of smaller existing equipment was inventoried and integrated with the new maintenance equipment.
• Phased expansion and renovation to keep facility operational during construction.
• Project came in under budget and on time.
• Sustainable features include photovoltaic panels on the roof, recycled content in major constructions materials, light colored flooring to efficiently use artificial and natural lighting, and minimum energy water heaters and lighting.
