Snohomish County PW Cathcart Operations Center
Snohomish County had been operating five different facilities that had Road Maintenance, Solid Waste, and Fleet Management support functions. Two of the facilities were over 60 years old with deteriorating all wood construction and riddled with decades of makeshift trailer additions and temporary construction for offices and storage. A third was not in much better condition and the valuable site was being sold for redevelopment. The County acquired a new site on the former Cathcart landfill to consolidate these three and MDG assisted a local design team to plan out the new campus on a site with many challenging topographical and soil conditions. The Cathcart Way Operations Center included an administrative office, fleet maintenance building, road maintenance heated vehicle storage and shops building, automated truck wash, fuel island, sheriff firing range, solid waste decant building, and yard storage for materials and snow removal operations.
Notable Design Features
- The Fleet Management Building has 18 repair bays with state-of-the-art vehicle lifts and systems to maintain a diverse fleet.
- Due to site soil conditions and increased pervious surface of the new campus, a large detention pond was located at the east end of the site to form an aesthetically pleasing stormwater mitigation strategy.
