City of Thornton/Adams 12 Five Star Schools CSC
Thornton, CO
Adams 12 Five Star School District was looking to relocate their Transportation Department and Outside Services to a new site closer to their central operations. Future transit oriented development and other City of Thornton development planning created an atmosphere for Adams 12 and the City to work together to consolidate public agency facilities in the community. This relocation collaboration enabled both entities to jointly share fueling, vehicle wash, CDL course, and sand/salt facilities and share in site and development costs to expand their operations.
From programming studies through construction documents, MDG helped guide the City and Adams 12 to a phased solution that would serve the functional and operations needs of both. The ultimate project included construction of a new Support Service Center for Adams 12 and the joint-use facility for both the City and school district. The Support Services Center included separate buildings for Fleet Maintenance, Bus Driver Operations and Administration Building, and the Outside Services (who maintains school district yards, parks, and sports fields). The maintenance facility included 18 bays, portable and two post lifts, a bridge crane, a parts room, and mezzanine.
Notable Design Features:
- Vehicle accessible and secure joint-use area on portion of the site.
- Separate circulation and access for Adams 12 and City operations.
- Facility features dual chassis wash bay, metered fluids dispenser system, and tire carousel.
