Town of Parker Public Works Operations and Maintenance Facility

Parker, Colorado

The Town of Parker operations and maintenance facility was too crowded. The site had no room to expand and growth was projected to double in 20 years. The Traffic Department didn’t have its own facility and was working out of the old Town Hall building, storing warehouse items in former office spaces. Trucks were being washed in storage bays, and access to the solid de-ice facility was poor. There was no dedicated fabrication shop, and storage bays were being used to accommodate this work. Additionally, there was no meeting space for field crews.

The Town purchased a rural site adjacent to their operation. Maintenance Design Group designed a site plan to obtain the best use of the sloped site. The new consolidated public works facility will provide space for Traffic, Storm Water, and Street Maintenance in one building. The site plan has a large area dedicated to snow and ice removal facilities, including solid de-ice barns and liquid de-ice tanks with ample space to accommodate trucks delivering materials.

The Town will be able to stage plow trucks in a heated building before a storm event. Field crews will have meeting space from which to coordinate work and events. A proper warehouse will be used to efficiently store traffic operations supplies.

Project Highlights
• The snow removal facility was jointly funded and operated with Douglas County.
• The site plan was designed to take advantage of the sloped site, using concrete retaining walls that double as bulk material bins.
