Central Kitsap School District Consolidated Transportation, Food Service, and Warehouse
The Central Kitsap School District (CKSD) had significantly outgrown their current transportation facility, and was in need of a new facility to service and maintain not only their fleet, but buses from nearby Bremerton School District as well. With an existing facility designed to accommodate approximately 60 buses, CKSD found themselves past capacity, maintaining a fleet of 95 CKSD buses and 34 Bremerton buses. Their staff likewise was working in facilities that were undersized and in need of updating.
MDG, as part of the Design Team, assisted with planning, design, and construction of the new Transportation Facility and wash building, ensuring facilities that would meet the current needs of CKSD, as well as allow for future growth and fleet changes. Project goals included providing adequate space to maintain all buses, providing a great working environment for Transportation staff, and ensuring a safe operating site that allows for efficiency. The new facility is located adjacent to the Grounds Maintenance Building on land owned by the school district.
- CKSD is transitioning from front-engine buses to rear-engine buses. Planning and design needed to accommodate both types of vehicles as the school district made the transition.
