Central Ohio Transit Authority Paratransit Facility

As a part of an overall plan to improve its service and facilities, Central Ohio Transportation Authority (COTA) needed a new maintenance and operations
facility to address expansion in its paratransit fleet size and vacate space needed for their fixed-route bus fleet. Maintenance Design Group developed a comprehensive space needs program for the new facility and then assisted in the development of an innovative design that significantly improved safety and efficiency of COTA’s operations in a state-of-the-art facility.

The facility houses all administration, operations, maintenance, vehicle storage, and service functions in a single building. Sustainable initiatives were targeted to maximize energy efficiency and a healthy work environment for employees and visitors. These included an underfloor HVAC system in all administration and operations areas which improve air quality, comfort, and control, and abundant natural light in all areas to minimize dependence on artificial lighting.

Project Highlights
• Single building configuration with all interior vehicle storage allows vehicles to circulate internally through service cycle and to maintenance.
• State-of-the-art Eligibility Assessment Center for eligibility and customer care functions.
• Sustainable bus wash with a high-efficiency water reclamation system combined with a rainwater harvesting system using underground storage tanks for captured water. Minimizes the use of potable water in the facility.
• LEED silver certification.
