Douglas County Public Works Facility
Douglas County Public Works (DCPW) has been experiencing steady growth over the past 20 years, and is only continuing to grow. The department was split into two separate locations, with Administration and Engineering groups at one site and Public Works Operations at another. This separation combined with outdated facilities left the County unequipped to handle this growth and subsequent added responsibilities, and the decision was made to design a new, more efficient facility that will better serve their current needs, as well as prepare them for further growth in the future.
Maintenance Design Group (MDG) was selected as a part of a comprehensive design team, along with Architect Clark Huesemann, to provide programming, planning, and industrial equipment design services for the new consolidated Public Works facility. The new facility includes administrative office areas for the Public Works Administrative group, Engineering Services, and Operations in one campus, allowing for more efficient and cooperative daily operations. The campus will also include a four bay, 13,000 square foot Vehicle Maintenance Facility, Vehicle Wash Facility, Covered Vehicle Storage, Covered Material Storage, Salt and Sand Storage, and Yard Storage.
• 2016 AIA Central States Region Design Award Winner – Excellence in Architecture.
• 2017 Silver Award – US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
• Combined previously separated facilities into one unified, high performance facility.
• Designed to allow for future staff growth needs and future vehicle and equipment requirements.
