Sky Harbor International Airport Rental Car Center Bus Maintenance Facility
The City of Phoenix constructed a new Rental Car Center (RCC) at Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport to house all the car rental companies serving the airport. Shuttle transportation between the Airport and the RCC is provided by the City using a fleet of 62 standard transit buses, rather than by each rental car company individually. To service this fleet of CNG buses on airport property, the City needed a new bus maintenance facility.
An integral part of the programming and master planning effort was providing for a facility which could accommodate a fleet expansion of up to 124 buses without affecting the initial maintenance building operations. The Administration, Operations and Maintenance Building includes five maintenance bays, work areas, parts room, administrative areas, driver operations, locker rooms, contract operator administration and other support functions. As part of the site master planning process, Maintenance Design Group helped plan the locations of CNG fueling facilities.
• Facility planned for future expansion to service 124 buses.
• CNG fueling integrated into site master plan.
